Recoverying From Plastic Surgery: Tips and Tricks
Our Pearl Recovery Retreat patients frequently ask us for plastic surgery recovery tips and tricks to make the process of healing after cosmetic surgery as smooth as possible. Of course, you should always ask your doctor for help preparing for surgery and surgery recovery.
When you arrive at Pearl our dedicated nurses will follow your doctor’s protocol and instructions to ensure a successful stay at our wellness retreat. We also want to know about your personal preferences regarding food, movies, music and visitors!
Here are some of our top plastic surgery recovery tips.
Preparing for Plastic Surgery
The process of preparing for your plastic surgery begins the minute you decide to undergo plastic surgery. Research the best doctor for your needs by asking friends and family for referrals, checking review sites such as Yelp, Realself and Healthgrades, and scheduling consultations with your top selections.
Once you schedule your cosmetic surgery, contact us to reserve your hotel recovery room. We are waiting to give you the restful surgery recovery you deserve. By entrusting your recovery to Pearl, you will eliminate concerns that your caregivers may be too sick, busy, distracted or overwhelmed to help you recover. Pearl’s nursing staff is ready to help you with applying ice packs, administering pain medication, conducting dressing changes, and even helping you eat and use the restroom if necessary.
Pearl Recovery Retreat offers many advantages over a traditional hospital recovery. Unlike hospitals, which treat many sick and contagious patients, Pearl only serves patients recovering from surgeries and thus offers a lower risk of infection. Pearl also offers a smaller nurse-to-patient ratio than most traditional wellness centers so that every guest may enjoy personalized care from a dedicated nurse.
In the days leading up to your surgical procedure, eat well, stay hydrated, and get plenty of rest. Follow doctor’s orders about any supplements or medications you should take or discontinue taking in advance of your surgery. If possible, arrange for downtime at work and childcare for your children so you can fully focus on your recovery.
Packing for Healing After Surgery
Pack well in advance of your surgery, when you have a clear head and no distractions. We encourage you to fill your prescriptions before your surgery so your medications are available immediately afterward for your comfort and convenience. We also offer prescription pick-up for a fee.
Ask your doctor’s office if they recommend any surgical garments for your recovery. If so, purchase those in advance of your stay or notify us if you would like to purchase them from us during your stay.
The following items will help you recover in comfort:
- A child-size toothbrush
- A comfortable zip-up track or jogging suit and additional loose-fitting clothes

- Guests undergoing facial or neck surgery should bring nightgowns with large head/neck openings and/or button-up pajamas, in order to protect their head dressings
- Guests undergoing breast or abdominal surgery should bring loose-fitting nightgowns or nightshirts with front openings so that our experienced nurses can closely monitor drains
- Female guests may wish to bring headscarves and/or floppy hats for privacy while being chauffeured to and from Pearl for follow-up appointments
