Most of us are always there when our loved ones need us. At the same time, this is excellent quality; most of us aren’t there when it comes to caring for ourselves. This is not such a great attribute to have. Sometimes you have to be there for yourself and care for your well-being like you care for others. It took a lot of crying, mental breakdown, and multiple let-downs from people I loved to realize how important it was to care for myself. Learning the art of being there for yourself takes time, and I want to pass on the knowledge so we can all live our best lives.
How to Be There for Yourself?
Being there means being present for yourself no matter what life throws. Being very kind, caring, compassionate, and understanding is essential. You must express yourself, love, grow, heal from past traumas, enjoy life, and live it with a huge passion and zest every day. You have to transform the way of your life.
Listen to your true feelings and deepest cravings for your soul. You have to treat yourself like you would treat your loved one. Be there for yourself with your entire heart. Your compassion isn’t complete if you forget to practice it with yourself. In this article, I will share the basics of caring for yourself. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Embrace Yourself
We all have good and bad parts about ourselves. You undoubtedly adore or like things about yourself, and there are certain parts that you detest. It is essential to embrace both. All your imperfections make you a unique individual. Always get inspiration from other people but never try to imitate them.
Accept your individuality and rock it. Now I don’t mean that you should become an extremely vain individual who believes that they never need any improvement. Leaving room for self-improvement is always great. However, killing yourself over something you don’t like about yourself isn’t a wise choice.
Create Boundaries While Being There for Yourself
Healthy boundaries are essential. Most of us don’t know how to say ‘NO’ even when we want to. You essentially teach others how to treat yourself. It is imperative to be clear on what type of behavior you will or won’t tolerate. Learn to stand for your values and beliefs without feeling guilty and set apparent boundaries.
If there are certain toxic people in your life, it is time to prioritize yourself and cut them out. You don’t have to be direct with them if that is something you don’t want to do. However, distance yourself from them slowly but surely. You are the most critical person in your life. Hence, act like the star you are.
Importance of Me Time
Sometimes, we occupy our minds by spending a lot of time socializing. While this temporarily removes your life’s stress, it often dulls your inner voice. It is crucial to take out a bit of time every single day to spend with yourself. You can pick up a hobby, practice meditation, journal, or sit quietly. It will allow you to concentrate on your inner voice and act accordingly. You can take an hour or two daily or weekly based on your schedule and see the benefits for yourself.
Parent Yourself
Sometimes, you have to parent yourself. Whether it is about breaking bad habits or treating yourself, it is great to act as a parent to yourself at times. It sometimes means making a nice meal, buying your favorite dress, or forcing yourself to make your bed every day. Do everything a loving, caring parent would do for their child.
Nurture Healthy Relationships
While there are some toxic people in our lives, there are also some great ones. Make sure to find these and nurture them. Invest in healthy relationships, whether they are your family or friends. A strong support group will help you feel secure, happy, and at peace.
Check on Yourself
Check on yourself every single day. As you lay down in the bed at the end of a tiring day, ask yourself how you feel, how you are doing, and what are a few things you would have done to improve this day. This simple act will transform your life dramatically. It will ensure that you are genuinely in tune with yourself while continuing to improve every single day.
How to Work on Being There for Yourself
One of the best ways to practically show you are being there for yourself is to treat yourself. Whether it be going to your favorite restaurant, buying that purse or watch you have been eyeing for a time, booking a spa day for yourself, or simply going shopping in your favorite grocery store. We never recommend overindulging. However, it is good to make yourself feel special now and then. Why wait for anyone else to treat you when you can do it yourself? Trust me; you will feel great afterward.
It is crucial to be always there for yourself no matter what. After all, you are all you have got. A solid relationship will bring you success and happiness in every walk of your life. More importantly, you will be at peace with yourself. If everyone and everything fails you, you still have the most important person – yourself. Self-care is the best kind of love, and we could all benefit from practicing a bit more of it. We hope you found this post helpful!
